Weight Description

I. Estimated vs. Actual Chargeable Weight

Calculating the estimated and actual chargeable weight of a parcel is a function Mulebuy provides to protect the interests of both users and the platform. Any freight difference will be refunded in a timely manner, ensuring users do not incur extra costs.

1. Estimated Chargeable Weight

After items are stored in the warehouse, they are weighed in their original packaging. When you submit a parcel, the system estimates the packaging weight based on the stored item weight and calculates the total estimated weight. If you request packaging removal during submission, the post-removal weight will be used. This total weight at the time of parcel submission is the estimated chargeable weight.

2. Actual Chargeable Weight

After your submitted parcel is packaged, warehouse staff weigh and measure it. If the carrier does not adjust the parcel's chargeable weight upon receipt, the actual chargeable weight is based on the warehouse's measurements. If the carrier adjusts the weight, the actual chargeable weight is based on the carrier's data. After warehouse packing is complete, you can check the actual charged weight by clicking "Details" on the parcel page.

Note: International freight is charged based on the greater of the actual weight or volumetric weight (for most routes). If the volumetric weight is greater, it becomes the actual chargeable weight. If the actual chargeable weight exceeds the estimate, you will be notified to pay the balance. If the estimate exceeds the actual weight beyond the continued weight threshold, the difference will be automatically refunded to your Mulebuy balance within 72 hours after shipment.

II. Actual Weight and Volume Weight

Some shipping routes charge based on the greater of the actual weight or volumetric weight.

1. Actual Weight

The physical weight of the product plus all packaging materials.

2. Volume Weight

A shipping industry calculation method for lightweight, bulky items where volume is large relative to actual weight.

3. Volume Weight Calculation

Volume Weight (kg) = [Length (cm) x Width (cm) x Height (cm)] / Divisor (5000, 6000, 7000, or 8000, depending on the carrier's standards).

4. Checking Volumetric Charges

To check if your parcel might be charged by volume before submission, use the estimation tool at: https://mulebuy.com/estimation.

(Reminder: The shipping fee estimation is for reference only; actual charges are based on the final packed parcel.)

III. Benefits of Combined Shipments

Consolidating your warehouse items into single shipments ensures professional packaging and saves international shipping costs compared to multiple separate parcels.

Example: GD-EMS to the USA

- First 500g: $30

- Each additional 500g: $10

- Per-package handling fee: $1

- Three items: 700g, 1100g, 1600g

1. Separate Shipments Cost: $153

(30+10+1) + (30+20+1) + (30+30+1) = $153

2. Combined Shipment Cost: $91

Total Weight: 0.7 + 1.1 + 1.6 = 3.4kg 30 + (6 * 10) + 1 = $91

Combining saves $62 by avoiding multiple first-weight charges and handling fees.

Note: Package weight and quantity are key factors customs use to distinguish personal from commercial shipments. Parcels over 10kg or containing numerous identical items are more likely to be classified as commercial. Consider this when consolidating shipments.

IV. Transport Weighing Standards

Mulebuy's services include postal, express, and special line routes, each with different weight standards.

Note: Some routes charge based on the greater of actual or volumetric weight. Others charging by actual weight might still apply volumetric charges if the parcel doesn't fit a standard express bag.
